Culture shock?

Sometimes people asked me about what is the most shocking thing for me, on this 'orang putih' soil. I think I can name a few, but I want to share only 1 in this post. Guess what?

Oh when I was in Angoulême doing diploma, I joined my uni' football (soccer) team. I am never a good footballer, I played only a few games, but still 80% of my team' matches in that regional inter-universities league.

Now let's move to the main topic. Playing football is nothing new, but the event after the match is. No, not the drinking culture. Beer after match is normal but of course I drink Coke only.

So what is my shocking discovery? It is the event just after the final whistle, in the dressing room. We talked about the match and started to undress. I thought they are all going to 'berkemban' with towel or bathing wearing short at least.

To my horror, everybody strip, yes totally strip till there was not even a single clothe on them. Nasib baik ada 2 orang pelajar Arab dari Morocco diorang tak buat benda ni. So that's it, come these two to the rescue.

Most of my uni' player were my classmates, I think there were 6 at least. Well it was quite hard for me to look at them during the next few days. Lain macam rasanya. Hahaha. Aiseyh.

But that is not the most shocking discovery after nearly 5 years being in France. Let's save the best for the last!

Yesterday I went to the mosque for the Friday prayer for the first time in Poitiers. I always have class on Friday afternoon plus I don't know where the mosque is.

Because of that I was late for my lab session that afternoon. The Imam talked about we Muslims always forget about the essential things in chasing glory.

Like for an example, diorang berebut-rebut kejar nak solat sunat hari raya, tapi parking kereta suka hati atas jalan menyusahkan orang nak pegi kerja.

Sedap jugak laa dengar imam kutuk budaya Arab. Haha. Please accept the fact that most of you really sucks.

Macam mana orang tak mo pandang hina Islam kalu perangai macam cibai. Kalau nak jahat pon, jangan susahkan orang lain.

Being bad is bad enough for yourself. But the trouble is double when you do bad things that concern others.
